HEALTHY LEADERSHIP AND SUCCESSION PLANNING.
Succession planning is developed to ensure that a company always has the right leaders in place in case a change occurs quickly. It is a strategy for identifying and developing future leaders at your company when they transition to another role which might be strictly linked to staff member development and your company’s growth.
“If you want to succeed at a higher level, you’ve got to build a strong foundation for success”. Michael Hyatt

Hey there! I hope you are doing well. Thank you for joining me in this post
I was reviewing the previous post on GPG and the strict relationship it has with excellence developed as a habit to efficiently accomplish assignments (if you are not related to what it is, feel free to click on this link Good Practice Guidelines for the Greatest Leaders) but then I realized there is a topic that I left behind.
If you read our post you will know that GPG has a number of benefits for both, the Virtual Assistant and the Executive/Client, but there is one benefit that was not listed and could be left out of scope if we don’t take the time to explain it.
If you are a Virtual Assistant who is constantly looking for areas of improvement, you might be interested in understanding Effective Leadership and how they develop their skills, if you do, you will find yourself on the path of growth propelling your career to the next level. But you also have to prepare for it, I mean you have to prepare for the handover process to the person who will cover your role while you move up the ladder.
But you know this is not something you could do in a day or two, right? Effective leaders prepare for the future, but do you know there are several barriers to building a strong foundation for success? And YES Mya Assistant brings you a wonderful and easy process that helps you with it. Let’s get into that important topic now.
Why Succession Planning is important?
According to CIPD -Championing better work and working lives 86% of organizations identified at least one barrier to the delivery of learning and skills initiatives: Lack of learning time (41%), limited budgets (40%), and lack of management time or support (29%) topped the list of barriers to delivery.
If you want me to get more analytical, let me explain below the advantages of Succession Planning for further discussion.
4 Succession Planning Benefits
- Increase staff members’ morale.
- A more solid portfolio of leadership
- A solid company culture
- A future-proofed workforce
Mya Assistant is committed to getting your business to grow and we are conscious of the limitations that a learning initiative might represent but it is important to keep in mind it is a key function of human resource management and we have worked around this needing coming up with a succession planning that will allow your Virtual Assistant prepare to assume new roles in your organization when they become available.
Mya Assistant counts with a tool that is very simple and easy to use but so effective and beneficial for our organization, our VA’s development, and our Clients/Executives’ Succession planning. You can take a look at Good Practice Guidelines for the Greatest Leaders.
As you know the GPG helps you to evaluate the correct process application, to adapt, modify and improve the established processes to obtain a better or more efficient result, have the big and detailed picture of what your assistant does in the role, to evaluate your VA leadership, willingness to improve, skills, and abilities and so on; but also helps to smooth the transition process when your Virtual Assistants will be promoted, the hand-off of the process is easier and faster and way more effective as all the process are updated, approved, set and detailed explained by the expert.
Obviously, this won’t eliminate the time of training required and the go-through process needed to complete during a transition but it is by far the most effective way to do it.
Now, the VA who is being promoted will also need to receive all the tasks assignments, and processes in his hands-on training, do you understand now the benefit we are talking about?
Ok. Ok… have we reached that level already?… know what is it?…know the importance?… Ok, now how do we do it? let’s see.
How to create Succession planning?
We can summarize it in 6 simple steps:
- Get to know your staff’s skills, talents, and abilities
- Get to know what they do and how they do it
- Practice healthy Delegation
- Create, review, and constantly follow up
- Be open to delegating projects and evaluating results openly with your VA
- Add another resource when your VA has reached the next desired level and allow them to cross-train.
As you can see all this come down to one single process: Good Practice Guidelines for the Greatest Leaders.
Remember,
Michael Hyatt puts it loud and clear when he says «If you want to succeed at a higher level you have to build a solid foundation for success» let’s plan and work around our foundation, plan for our future as leaders and create our own succession plans for our roles or the roles of our staff members if we are the ethical and effective leaders we want to be.
It has been a long and productive journey and I love sharing the knowledge I have gained with you, but now it is time to plan what I would like to dream.
…see you soon!
